As some may remember, Gant has stolen Russia's secret new super-plane "Firefox" and has bravely flown it past the USSR border. Happy ending? So one thought. But now, over Finland, Gant realizes that he's running out of gas (the tank has sprung a leak during a recent dogfight) while being pursued by two Foxbat interceptors. So he manages to land the plane on a frozen Lapland lake. . . which promptly melts, sinking the Firefox. And, while Gant barely survives drowning and starts trekking toward civilization, both Moscow and London are talkily monitoring these goings-on as best they can. The Brits know where the plane is - but can they, dare they get in there and haul it out before the Russians arrive? The Russians don't know exactly where the plane is - but they capture Gant (just before he can be UK-rescued) and subject him to myriad Moscow interrogation techniques. . . while an Anglo-American team is hurriedly arranging to bring Fire fox out of the water and then "Skyhook" it to the West. Then, however, Gant escapes (unconvincingly) and heads for the tricky Finnish border with reluctant CIA agent Anna, beloved of a KGB colonel (who pursues with homicidal intent). So finally everyone's violently converging on Lapland - the English, the Russians, and Gant again. . . who will now attempt to fly the super-plane to safety, the "Skyhook" having failed to arrive in time. Weak on character (despite Anna's sturm und drang) and heaped with implausibilities - but lively, straightforward action-entertainment for the more devoted fans of Firefox and its movie version.
