During a number of years past, while engaged in making researches regarding our branch of the Potts family, I became acquainted with a number of interesting incidents in the life of my grandfather - Major James Potts, and latterly, many papers in some way relating to him, have fallen into my hands. To preserve to his descendants, the little that I have been able to rescue from oblivion, I have prepared the following biographical sketch.
