And, seeing that in courtesy I must write this, perhaps I may be pardoned for adding a few words more, to this effect indeed - that I have made songs all my life at happy moments when the mood was mine. The first - which, however, is not to be read here - I wrote down with a pencil borrowed from the nurse who was assisting me to bed (I can dimly recall the surprise and pride and joy); the last was made but the other day.
