Men judging according to their age and passions, I wonder not at the praise and satire lavished by them on the same work. A woman, as she smiles or frowns, partakes of it's fate; like it, she has her censors and admirers: no more than she do I pretend to please all; too well am I acquainted with the human heart to indulge the idle, flattering conceit. As we feel, we see and read; the gay and passionate, the devotee and indifferent, having a foul the reverse of each other, mull necessarily differ in their opinion of a beauty and a novel. Of Henrietta I will fay but this: all the characters are new. If good, the publick will do it justice; if bad, to commend it would be ridiculous.
