The principal one was a keen sense of justice due to those whose long-sustained labours were pre-eminently the cause, the effect of which is the present organised and improved condition of the dental profession. During the twenty years which have elapsed since the first real movement in the direction of reform took place, many of the most influential and energetic men have been removed from our midst by the stern hand of death. It appeared to me an injustice to their memory to allow their names and their self-sacrificing endeavours to pass quietly into forgetfulness. We all owe them the tribute of acknowledgment and remembrance, and I conceived the present method to be, at the least, appropriate. Not only to those who have departed, but also to those who, happily, are still with us, is this simple record of their work and its successful result, due.
