Excerpt from Churchwardens of Giggleswick: 1683-1883 Amongst the books deposited in the safe at Giggleswick Church is a very old one, much worn and tattered, but recently touched up and rebound in vellum; and in this book have been recorded, year by year, the names of the Churchwardens, and in many cases, those of the overseers and other parochial officers. Thinking that this is a matter of general interest, I have extracted the list of churchwardens and arranged them in tabulated form. It may be as well to state that from time immemorial, there have been four wardens at Giggleswick, one each for Giggleswick, Settle, and Stainforth, and (until the year 1851,) one for the townships of Rathmell and Langcliffe alternately. In 1851 however, Langcliffe was created a Vicarage, (Settle and Stainforth remaining perpetual curacies,) and from that date the fourth warden has represented Rathmell only.
