The translation, with the plates, is forwarded by this mail. I have thought that it would be considered worthy of publication, as at this time the subject of irrigation is receiving considerable attention in this country and an appropriation has been made by Congress for preliminary surveys and investigation of the subject. The translation is also interesting as giving recent facts in regard to the regimen of the Nile and some of the methods employed for protection of the banks on that river.
