Thirteen poems have been selected from the Authors Poems (Longmans, 1894)and are published here with the kind consent of Mr. M.J.C. Meiklejohn. Acknowledgments are due to the proprietors of Longmans' Magazine and Punch for permission to reprint certain verses. A few minor changes in the text, made by the Author after the publication of the first edition, are now incorporated. The promoters of the present edition desire to express their cordial gratitude to Mr. Andrew Lang for his introduction.
