WARNING: anecdotal commentary from bookseller to follow. My ex-wife emailed one day and mentioned that a woman from Tasmania moved into the condo next door. While chatting my name came up. Bruce Schneider, I knew that name back in Regina (Saskatchewan), she said. I was his art teacher. Ex- said, yup, that would be him. A few weeks later an elderly woman came through the door of the bookstore, aided by a younger woman. Are you Bruce Schneider? Yes I replied. She said I am Holly Holiday and I was your art teacher at Sheldon-Williams. I did not recognize her nor did I remember the name but she showed me a small sketchbook of hers in which I had written 2 short poems. I remembered them instantly. It seems that she was a substitute teacher for the regular art teacher, who had a couple of 'break downs' which kept him off the job for three months at a time. Thus Audrey. She was warm and glowing and I felt like the past 40 years had melted away. Sadly Holly died a couple of months later and a couple of months after that her library came to our store. Not too long later I found this book in a local thrift and, always enjoying regional sketchbooks I looked closely. And, there was Holly. Book is dedicated 'To Lynda - with lots of love. Holly on title page. Book is signed by author and illustrator on title page. It is the sketchbook I desire.
