This included logarithmic raytracing methods, and matrix formulations of raytracing. (At the same time the author emphasized finite methods which use exact raytracing as a basis for calculating aberrations and aberrational conditions without any mathematical approximations. Chapters include Ideal Optical Images; Geometrical Optics; Gaussian Optics; Finite Raytracing;Optical Invariants; Monochromatic aberrations; Calculation of the Seidel aberrations; Finite aberration formulae; Chromatic abberation; Thin lens aberrations; Optical tolerances, followed by Appendices with summaries of the main formulae, and a glossary of symbols followed by an index.
