Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****.Excerpt from Songs of Peace and Joy IN publishing this little volume, I desire to say that I had never read any of Miss Havergal s beautiful Poems until the summer of 1878, when I was so charmed with the natural "ow, lyrical aptitude, and truly Christian sentiments of her poetry, that I felt an intense desire to set some of her Hymns to music. Iaccordingly wrote to ask her permission to do so, which she readily and most kindly granted, by a short note to me dated August 10, 1878. I then set three of them, which I sent for her approval viz., Ministry of Song, v. I and I I, Be not Weary, and Wait patiently for Him, -when she replied, August 24, 1878: Some of the Hymns have been set already it would save possible disappointment if you would say beforehand which you would like to set. Your name is so well known to me, and was so honoured by my dear father, that I am specially gratified at your music and my little words being linked together. May our God grant his special blessing on your plan. Thus encouraged, I went on adapting and occasionally sending her my tunes until they had reached about thirty, corresponding with her at intervals, until it became necessary that we should determine how they should be published. This suggested an interview, and an invitation was sent me to go to Wales for the purpose of going through the m.S. Together. Man proposes, but God disposes, and it was ordered otherwise. Consequently a request was made that I should send the ms. Down, as Miss H. Said she could look it over then, and return it before she went on her projected tour to her Irish mission. This was done and the ms. Returned with copious notes and valuable suggestions, to which I had much pleasure in giving effect, when it pleased the Disposer of all events to call her hence, - how gloriously prepared has been fully stated. And I have reason to bless God for my acquaintance with her and her works. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
