London England: Heinemann Educational. Very Good. 1970. 2nd Edition. Soft Cover. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" Tall Octavo 0435626914 Paperback Paperback. Cell Biology. Couple of very slight indentation marks to front cover. This is an up-to-date, and extremently readable, introduction to one of the most rapidly developing fields of scientific research. it gives a concise description of the structure and behaviour of our cells, mainly from the point of view of molecular biology. Bacteria and other Protista are included, as well as the cells of multicellular animals and plants. In this thoroughly revised edition the author has made modifications throughout the text to bring it completely up-to-date. A new chapter has been added on interlationships among cell structures and many new plates and figures have been included. The bibliography has been expanded to include the most significant works of the last two years. The first chapters is, in effect, a restatement of the Cell Theory in modern terms. The next chapters deals with the structure of macro-moluecules and membranes, and the molecular architecture of celluar organelles. Then comes an account of bioenergetics and of energy transducers (such as chloroplasts, contractile structures and ionic pumps. There follows a review of the nucleic acids in heredity and in protein synthesis; and the regulation of cellular activities by interacting genetical and enzymic systems is described. From this develops a detailed treatment of cell reproduction, cytodifferentiation and cellular interaction. Finally, the origin of cells during evolution is discussed. The book is aimed primarily at undergraduates with little knowledge of the subject, but it should also be useful for graduates trying to keep up with recent advances. It gives an up-to-date survey of all the important aspects of cell biology, and draws extensively on discoveries hitherto reported only in scientific journals. Illustrated. 220 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.). .
