Julia Margaret Cameron, acknowledged as one of the greatest portrait photographers of all time and finest photographer of her era, presented the original of this album, bound in leather and with the name mounted on it in metal, to Maria Jackson, known as Mia, one of Mrs. Cameron's six sisters. In 1974 the album sold at Sotheby's for a record price and this is a faithful reproduction of that album. The collection of photographs, while it includes some of the most celebrated figures of the age, for example Alfred Lord Tennyson and Lewis Carroll, is largely a family album. But what a family and what a circle of friends. Dark green cloth binding, gold decoration with initials on front board, gold titles, dark green top edge. Stated first American edition. This is a used book. Pages are clean and bright with no markings, notes, or highlighting. DJ shows edge wear with no rubbing or soiling and is not price clipped. Some browning around the edges. No owner's marks or bookplates, not ex-library. Binding is tight and square with minor scuffing and edge wear on boards. Corners are bumped. An excellent reading copy. Books.
