On a rappelé que dans les plus beaux siècles de l'histoire romaine les enfants ne montaient pas sur les planches, et que Néron porta le dernier coup aux moeurs en inspirant aux jeunes gens le goût du théâtre. 2 Qui ne connaît le Traité des Etudes de Rollin où se trou vent des pages intéressantes sur la Tragédie dans les col lèges9 Rapidement, avec calme, le bon Rollin expose les motifs qui, d'après lui, militent en faveur de la suppression du théâtre scolaire. Je note au passage quelques-uns de ces motifs: Les acteurs 'négligent les devoirs de la classe; ces messieurs ne sont pas toujours d'une surveillance facile; le goût du théâtre vient avec ces sortes d'exercices. Rollin était janséniste, et cela ne peut, en aucune façon accroître son autorité dans le cas présent. Aussi bien tout le monde n'est pas de son avis.
