Irish monks journeyed to Iceland in 825 A.d., and Norsemen founded Arctic Colonies in Iceland and Greenland, nearly a thousand years ago, penetrating north of the 7sth parallel of latitude. The Black Death, in Norway, in 1374, caused these colonies to be lost sight of, and it was not till the end of the 1sth century.
