Most technical people in these industries feel a need for greater understanding of these relationships. Most courses and literature on the subject are concerned mainly with the theory of mechanical the thermal properties; while most of the practical knowledge is dispersed throughout the industry in technical bulletins or unpublished form. In view of the great need and interest in this area, I have tried to collect both theoretical and practical information on these relationships, and organize it into a system which will make it more available and useful to specialists in the field. Since the original scientific literature is too extensive and too scattered, I have worked mainly from recent textbooks and industrial experience. The reader should have a reasonable background in the field, either through industrial experience or through introductory courses in polymer science or technology. The primary purpose of this book is to collect and organize our present understanding of the important relationships between structure, properties, and applications. Given this starting point, the reader should then be able to build on it more intensively through further reading and experience....
