Author Bob Dunstan has drawn on a lifetime's study of the towns, and many hitherto neglected and unexamined sources; co-author Ruth Dunstan has researched and selected material throughout the county and the nation. COVER: The Fal Waterway, specially painted for this book by Geoff Shaw of Falmouth, and taken from an 1850 print of Tregoning. Born (1897) and educated at Ponsanooth, the author later attended Truro Technical School. He joined the West Briton in 1913, then the Royal Marine L.I. in 1916, serving in the Somme, Arras, Ypres and Cambrai offensives. He was wounded, and captured in 1918. He rejoined the West Briton in 1919, later serving The Statesman in India for 12 years, finally as news editor. Returning to the UK in 1936 he took over the King's Head PH, Falmouth joining the Security Service in 1939, working under MI5. His counterespionage coups included the discovery of three spies. He rejoined the West Briton post-war as subeditor, retiring in 1964. Ruth Dunstan, better known as Ruth Jones, born Redruth 1922, is descended from the famous Cornish Grenvilles. Educated at Falmouth, she worked throughout the last war on war damage repairs, and started her own business in 1950. Ruth Jones is a past chairman of the Valuers' Institution, (Devon and Cornwall), of Central and W. Cornwall Estate Agents' Assoc., former Falmouth Borough Councillor and a JP. The Dunstans have one daughter. and live at Lansdowne Road, Falmouth.'
