Southamton: Paul Cave Publications Ltd., 1989. Number 535 of a limited edition of one thousand copies. Hardcover in dustwrapper. .Maroon cloth, gilt title to spine and gilt silhouette with facsimile signature to face. Colour photo-illustrated dust-wrapper with yellow ground and black title to spine and front. 168 pages, Very well illustrated with photographs etc... appendices at rear, 8.5 X 12 inches. Signed by Albert W Cooper and another unidentified signature on the dedication page. Very good book in a very good dustwrapper a bit sunned on the spine and small nick on fore edge. BENJAMIN BANKS 1727-1795, ranks among the finest English makers of the 18th century. Unlike London, the centre of the Old English School, Salisbury still retains almost all the buildings which Banks knew so well, nevertheless he owned property in Hammersmith and had family connections in the capital, so London also knew him well; subsequently its influence can be seen in his work. Of the 100 or so illustrations in this publication, most being shown for the first time, the silhouette of Banks himself, is of particular interest and importance. It is the only likeness of any violin maker, prior to photography, to come down to us, and has been thoroughly researched and authenticated.. Signed by Author. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good.
