This edition consists of a facsimile reprint of the original edition with the addition of a Foreword by Sir Anthony Parsons and an introduction by Murdoch Wales, who further undertook extensive research to write an additional four chapters as Part Two of the narrative to complete the biography. At age 14, Tom Archer moved from Scotland to Australia with his brothers and spent the next 15 years in the country. He and his brothers pioneered a series of sheep and cattle stations in Australia before joining the California Gold Rush. He returned to Australia and spent eight years as station manager at Gracemere, near Rockhampton, before becoming a controversial Agent General.
