ACMRS, 2016. Hardbound. New Book. Hardbound. Lund presents the first English translation of the 1682 allegorical novel of salvation that Jesuit priest Gusmao (1629-1724) wrote in Brazil. It was published in three editions in Portugal and translated into Spanish and published in Barcelona and Mexico City. These were the only editions, however, because the Jesuits and all things Jesuit were expelled from Brazil in 1759 and from the Spanish Empire in 1768. He situates the novel in its time and in the tradition of allegory. ACMRS is the Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies. (2016 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR).

The Story of the Predestined Pilgrim is an English translation of a salvation allegory written in the hinterland of Brazil in 1682 by the Jesuit Father Alexandre de Gusmão. Generally, it served the pedagogical purposes of his order, being translated twice into Spanish (1696 and 1815), and specifically for use in his mission boarding school in Belém da Cachoeira. Its narrative follows the evolution of the two protagonists, Predestined and Reprobate, as they travel from Egypt toward the New Jerusalem. It examines the vicissitudes of their encounters with the personifications of virtues and vices. It culminates, perhaps, with the mystical benevolence of Charity., Hardcover, Edition: 1, Label: ACMRS Publications, ACMRS Publications, Product group: Book, Published: 2016-12-01, Studio: ACMRS Publications.
