The dustjackets of both books are much worn, creased, scuffed and marked. They are relaxed and sure. The boards are smart. They have some mild shelving wear to the head and foot of the spine and the corners. The silver emblems are fresh. Volume One: the papertrims have handling marks. The early pages have some foxing. The pages in general are clean, clear, confident. Volume Two: The spine has storage wear and marking about the body and head and foot. The papertrims have some shelving marking. Volume one is the reprint of the original 1947 publication. Volume two is the reprint of the original 1950 edition. The very general condition of both is good. Both have suffered from inconsiderate storage. The covers (including the dustjackets) of both have mottling, marking and staining from damp. The initial pages and later pages of both volumes have staining and wrinkling. The bulk of both volumes are in good condition with clear, fresh looking pages and maps. There is wear and marking to the head and feet of both spines. Previous owner inscriptions are on both frontispages.
