"The fourth volume in the Men of Our Time series, this work is, in fact, the story of a family and their farm - the Goldberg family who have been established in Zimbabwe since 1912. Most of the children of Simon and Esther Goldberg - five sons and two daughters - grew up in the country and all of them have made significant contributions to its evolution from a primitive area of south-central Africa to a community with a progressive agricultural industry, a considerable mining industry, broadly based manufacturing concerns and a sophisticated economy. The Goldberg brothers have played a part in all these developments but their major share has been in farming. Their great agricultural enterprise, Leigh Ranch in the eastern part of the country, was in its heyday one of the largest tobacco producers as well as the home of an outstanding cattle herd. Along with their farming activities, all members of the family took a notable part in the general life of the community, the sisters as distinguished nurses and the brothers in local and national organisations devoted to agricultural and charitable interests.".
