This small but fascinating book focusses upon a vast tract of Central Asia, divided into Eastern and Western Turkestan, through which historic trade routes such as the silk road passed. This volume was first published in Switzerland in1941 - it was issue no.40 of CIBA Review. It consists of 53 pages, plus sketch map of Turkestan and is generously illustrated throughout the text with historic black and white photographs of ordinary folk and tribesman, both settled and nomadic, in their traditional costumes. In addition, photographic examples are shown of their crafts, such as rugs and embroidered wall-hangings.The book is bound in green cloth with titling in black on spine and with an embroidery design and black lettering on front cover; it has black endpapers. The covers are a bit mottled in places - this is most evident in a narrow band near the bottom edge of the front board and in a small area towards the bottom corner of the foredge on the back board. Otherwise the binding remains bright, while the text is clean. Size: 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" Tall - Landscape.
