ISBN: 9780908603091 bzw. 0908603096, in Englisch, Nova Pacifica Publishing Co. Ltd. Wellington, New Zealand. gebundenes Buch, Erstausgabe.
Von Händler/Antiquariat, Coch-y-Bonddu Books Ltd [68825], MACHYNLLETH, United Kingdom.
1982 1st edition. Folio (270 x 356mm). Ppxiv,409. 89 full-page colour plates by G.E. Lodge, b/w illustration and map. Quarter-bound in faux brown leather, blue cloth spine titled in gilt. Very good in just slightly faded dust-wrapper. A collection of previously unpublished paintings of the birds of New Zealand. "This unique collection of 89 watercolour paintings by the renowned British bird painter, George Edward Lodge, was commissioned by the New Zealand Government in the early 1900'S. Intended as a replacement for Buller's Birds of New Zealand, it was to have included a text by James Drummond. Due to the outbreak of World War I and a shortage of funds at the time, the plates were never published, and have since passed into the care of the National Museum of New Zealand where they remained until publication of this book. The collection has solicited considerable international interest because it represents the only major collection of Lodge paintings in the world that have not previously been published. Nova Pacifica and the National Museum are proud to publish the paintings together with a text by Sir Charles Fleming. We are sure that the reader will appreciate the quality and importance of the material contained within this book." The book opens with a foreword by Sir Peter Scott, a preface by Dr. J.C. Yaldwyn, several introductions giving something of the background of the publication of the book followed by a brief history of birds in New Zealand. Accompanying each painting is a description of the species illustrated.
