Copy V of VI (200), signed by Ayling and Macintosh, bound in full blue leather with a reproduction of a mountain scene blocked in silver, with Chinese text, to the front cover, black leather label with silver title to the spine, marbled endpapers, t.e.g. in a blue paper-covered slipcase. Laid in postcard from the press. A selection of Chinese verse from the Tang dynasty to Mao Tse-Tung, translated by Duncan Mackintosh and rendered into verse by Alan Ayling. A substantial, scholarly and very early Whittington production printed on a very thick and rich-textured handmade paper. The special edition of just six copies in full leather, as here, is extremely scarce and many Whittington collections must be lacking an example. The colophon for this limitation has an additional sentence printed at the end of the standard colophon: 'This is one of six copies bound in full leather by Hunter and Foulis Ltd'. Near Fine (the slightest abrasion to a small part of the text on the leather title-label), in a Near Fine (1cm faint white mark to one side) slipcase. Butcher 9.
