Pray is a fiction novel, that should be read slowly. It is not a two day book, but a book to dawdle over. The story line is a baby developing in a hurricane. The baby is slightly deformed and as she is growing,she explains this deformity to herself through fables she overhears, interpreted by the television. ( It is the 1960's and the mother is enthralled by the TV. It is new to her.) Shannon, the baby also hears about her immediate environment, which she will be expecting to fit into. This is mostly a criminal, cult and Christian society. Her father is a Christian and her mother is a cult criminal. Shannon briefly examines other religions and countries, but it is only the criminals of each that she learns about because these are the only people she will probably ever meet. I have tried to make the story as original as possible, so have not relied on the usual to make it interesting. The book follows the development of the cults and Christianity, as well as the embryo's, but It is not a true history. A big part of the book is maps and moles, Egyptology and cult methods.
