UNCIVPOL (Vic) Club, Melbourne, 1984. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Very Good. Illustrator: Photographic. XVI, 241 pages, photographic illustrated end pages (both different), 11th appendices, five tables, nine maps, numerous black-and-white photographs and reproductions of documents. Colour illustrated dust jacket. Slight dustiness to the top edge of the text block. other than that, the only damage is a small abrasion to the very top edge of the front end page, central, where an insect has had a nibble, and then left off, obviously deciding the book on law enforcement was a little dry. The United Nations Civilian Police was formed in May 1964, and the authors describe 20 years of police work by the strand police and three years experienced by the New Zealanders. It is a unique story of police officers without law enforcement powers in an unfamiliar and often hostile environment, mediating between historical antagonists while trying to keep clear of the internal conflict that raged between Greek Cypriots. Even so,UNFICYP was highly successful in reducing the level of violence on the Island and in providing an environment for the negotiated settlement that never occurred. -- dust jacket blurb. .
