No effort has been made to be politically correct in the presentation of this material. The quotations and excerpts have been used as they were found in the original sources. Most of us in the older generation grew up using the King James version of the bible. However, the Living Bible has been used as the primary source for most bible excerpts since it is sometimes easier for contemporary people to understand. We have heard it said that a child must hear something 2,000 times before it makes any impression. That may be an exaggeration but it sure seems like it's true at times. It is with this in mind that we have gathered together many of the expressions, proverbs, and short selections which we feel all children and young people (and people of all ages) should hear over and over again. They are things which our parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and mentors have said to us over the years. They are things which prophets, philosophers, and wise men (both ancient and current) have said and written over the ages. We try to work them into our conversations with our grandchildren as often as possible. Each day, as I read them to my grandchildren, I always read the first five days (January 1-5) as well as the entry for the current day. This way they hear the major rules of life 365 times a year. We have put them into the daily format because in this way, in just a few minutes each day, we can hopefully plant some seeds of wisdom, kindness, self-discipline, and justice that will last for a lifetime. Also, with them written down and dated, we do not forget or neglect some ideas which are important. If you have any expressions or short articles which you feel are so important that everyone should read or hear them, please send them to us at the address below. We will be happy (and grateful) for the opportunity to try to incorporate them into the book. If you have any suggestions on how we can make the ideas and beliefs presented in this work more real, tangible, evident, or meaningful to all generations (and especially the younger generation), we will surely welcome your input and suggestions.
