As newlyweds, they are separated by Joe’s tour of duty as a security officer in the Air Force, leaving Kim on her own. During her prolonged separation from her husband, Kim is lulled into an affair with Tom, a police officer with a twisted personality, and, eventually, Richard, a young, affluent attorney. On leave, Joe learns of Tom’s affair with his wife and the men, both with formal training in physical combat, use their knowledge against each other. Kim attempts to sever her relationship with Tom, thereby provoking him to rape her. Her charges of rape are met with skepticism by his superiors after Tom’s glib explanation that Kim was trying to punish him for his rejection of her. Joe is severely crippled by an accident at Hickem Field, Hawaii. He is returned to a Veterans Administration Hospital in Los Angeles for extensive physical rehabilitation only to be rebuffed by his love, his wife. Kim does not want to spend the rest of her young life pushing a wheel chair in a marriage without any prospects of physical gratification or a comfortable life style. Kim moves into Richard’s house in an affluent neighborhood. Joe hires a cab to take him to the house to plead with Kim to return to him. Immediately after Joe’s visit, the bodies of Kim and Richard are found in the house. The rejected and crippled husband, Joe, is immediately a suspect. Given the details of the murder, a jury determines that it was physically impossible for Joe to kill Kim and Richard. Tom, and his partner, Victoria, are assigned to the case by the LAPD. Victoria is aware of Tom’s stalking of and obsession with Kim. Victoria makes mental notes and determines that Tom will murder Joe. With this knowledge, she reaches Joe just as Tom is smothering him. She saves Joe’s life. Before she kills Tom, he confesses to the double homicide of Kim and Richard. Joe and Victoria develop a strong relationship, and, over time, Joe’s physical potency returns, as the doctors had suggested it might, and he becomes affluent as the beneficiary of a trust established by a loving and concerned relative.
