Many of the drawings and designs found their way into Netsuke, Ojime and other Japanese art work. . Many of these drawings were used as the basis for Netsuke, Inro and Ojimi carvers. This is a miscellany of various subjects, drawn in his own unique style, evoking a chuckle from the reader. . *** SUBJECT OF THIS ISSUE: This issue contains a Great Demon chasing off a kind of "Oni" [devil]. various mythological Gods: Tengu, Kaze-no-Kami [thunder god], Heavenly Dragon, Samurai, warriors, equestrian soldier, arms, armor, swords & other weapons. . Four pages [two double-pages] of various kinds of birds: hawk, ducks, crane, chicken, sparrows, cormorants, owl, crow &c. . Sixteen pages [8 double-page] drawings of myriad plants: flowers, water chestnuts, palm, root vegetables, bamboo, rose taro, fern, fruit trees, pines, wintry snowy-covered trees, Momiji [Japanese maple], cactus &c. Also various kinds of landscapes: mountains, water, architecture: bridges, walls, gates, villages, pagodas, shrines, residences, fences &c. . Japanese vessels: common junk, tubs, sampans, sailing boats, cargo boats, wooden-bucket for the impoverished fishermen. . Swimmers: a double-page showing many swimmers, some chase & catch fish, using cloth bags with air to stay afloat, a horse riding man 'swim,' swimmers using a pole to pull them selves down to the depths, diving for coral & seaweed, a man in a large glass [??] diving bell & others. . Old scholars & deities: various views of named Gods, a scroll artist, some with long pipes, fans, fishing and a host of others. Followed by a double-page of Chinese Gods or famous deities. . Drawing of thunder & lightning over a small village, two Buddhist Monks engulfed in fire, .
