Sir, --In January 1873 you told me that you wished to have the womans view as to the effect on girls of the system of education at pauper schools. You asked me if I would undertake to visit the workhouse schools, and report to you the conclusions at which I arrived. You promised me all possible help from the Local Government Board in pursuing my enquiry, and you furnished me with a letter requesting the officials of schools and workhouses to give me all the information and help in their power. I wish here to acknowledge that (with one exception) I was received everywhere with kindness, and neither time nor trouble were grudged in aiding my investigations. I have given my attention almost exclusively to questions affecting the physical, moral, and domestic training at the schools.
