He felt lonely and deserted in his tower, and, instead of whistling and Sing ing over his work, as was his wont, he brooded over his loss, and spent his time in wandering from his favourite lemon tree, on the south walls of the Castle, to the small door which Opened on the staircase leading to Hugh de Mohun s apartment.
