Cancer is one of the leading causes of human mortality. Scientists have successfully developed multiple anti-cancer drugs in the past few decades including cytotoxic reagents such as paclitaxel and gemcitabine, or targeted reagents such as herceptin and imatinib. However, the effective drugs for most solid tumours are still lacking and the primary treatment for these tumours remains to be radical surgery. The demand for new anti-cancer drugs is high and attracts massive resources in the pharmaceutical industry. Recently the application of PD-L1 antibodies for cancer therapy has achieved great success in multiple clinical trials and reactivated interest in the "old" immune therapy concept for cancer treatment, suggesting that new discoveries may completely revolutionize the prospect of the field in cancer treatment. In this mini-review series, the editors review several promising fields for anti-cancer drug discovery and have invited experts to summarize the recent development in these fields. In addition, cancer cell culture is an important tool for drug screen and validation. The 3D cell culture system has provided a more sophisticated platform on top of the traditional 2D culture which quickly became popular in drug development. The recent progress in the application of 3D culture in anti-cancer drug development has also been addressed in this volume. This book is a handy reference for researchers involved in anti-cancer drug development and screening projects. Reviews in this volume: Venom Peptides and Toxins - A Prospective Spearhead in Cancer Treatment Phytochemicals - A Novel and Prominent Source of Anti-cancer Drugs Against Colorectal Cancer Drug Repurposing in Anticancer Reagent Development The Small Molecules Targeting Ubiquitin-Proteasome System for Cancer Therapy Recent Advances in Developing Photosensitizers for Photodynamic Cancer Therapy Anticancer Properties of Traditional Chinese Medicine The Breakthroughs in Cancer Immune Checkpoint Based Therapy: A Review of Development in Immune Checkpoint Study and its Application Developmental Phases of Anticancer Screening Models Development of In Vitro Co-Culture Model in Anti-Cancer Drug Development Cascade, Paperback, Label: Bentham Science Publishers, Bentham Science Publishers, Product group: Book, Published: 2017-06-15, Studio: Bentham Science Publishers.
