In the late summer of 1978 there was still a disco beat in the air and that era was at about the half way mark of its run. There were also the sweet sounds of Ann Murray and of course Barry Manilow. Mick Jagger's “Miss You” was one of the “bigs” in the Rock world at this time. Soft and “Punk” were still looming. Dan Hill's one hit wonder “Sometimes When We Touch” was still on the charts from March, I believe. Being born in 1955 and being raised on songs from an earlier era, I couldn't help being a hopeless romantic. However, peer pressure and a quality of energy that comes with being a teenage boy caused a fade away from those great standards. There is an irony taking place right at this moment as I write. The irony is that my favorite melody of all time, hands down, is “My Foolish Heart”, a song that has an indirect link with the “New Yorker”. In 1949, J.D. Salinger sold his story to a production company and with much fabrication, his story evolved into the motion picture “My Foolish Heart”.The flick was much criticized, but the song became an American and Jazz Standard.
