ISBN: 9781888708400 bzw. 1888708409, in Englisch, Museum of Contemporary Art 2010. First edition., North Miami, gebundenes Buch, gebraucht, Erstausgabe.
Von Händler/Antiquariat, Beaux Books, ABA, ILAB [57635549], Hartley Wintney, United Kingdom.
Paper-covered hardback. Unpaginated [c. 130 pages]. Illustrated in b&w and colour. 0.9kg. English. Near fine; corners lightly rubbed; an excellent, clean copy. 'I wanted to make a gift of photographs to the Haitian community - its congregation of souls, old and new, for those who had experienced great sadness and great joy in being part of what I call my home, America.' (Bruce Weber, Standing Tall). Published to coincide with the exhibition Bruce Weber: Haiti/Little Haiti at the Museum of Contempory Art, North Miami, this is Weber's most overtly political book. His photographs of the Haitian community in Miami formed a protest against the indefinite detention of Haitian migrants arriving in the United States. He photographed the inhabitants of Little Haiti, young and old, with the same generosity and understanding as he gives all his subjects. These are real people, who share the American dream. Beaux Books specialises in vintage, collectable and luxury books on art, design, fashion and style. All our books are in stock unless otherwise stated. This book was published for the exhibition Bruce Weber: Haiti / Little Haiti at the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami. In 2003, The Miami Herald published a magazine supplement of Bruce Weber's photographs of Miami's Haitian community. The photographs were Weber's response to an unjust U.S. immigration system in which Haitian men, women and children were detained indefinitely unlike refugees from other countries who were typically released to family or friends while awaiting asylum hearings. Compelled to tell the story of the struggle of Haitian immigrants, Weber immersed himself in the Haitian community, which he has continued to chronicle through the present, including victims of the earthquake in Haiti who received medical care in Miami. Bruce Weber is renowned for revolutionizing fashion photography and the same formal elements that make his fashion and celebrity photographs so forceful contribute to the impact of his Haitian photographs. These images convey what he sees and admires in the Haitian children and adults he photographs, -- their strength, pride, resilience, elegance and beauty. Hardcover, Label: Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, Product group: Book, Published: 2010-11-18, Studio: Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, Sales rank: 4694472.
