In Sebald´s Austerlitz, Wittgenstein´s notion of family resemblances is an aesthetic strategy within the novel. Visual tropes are most obviously present in Sebald´s use of photography, and can partially be read as an ethical-aesthetic imperative of rendering pain visible.
