Neuware - Kaptai Lake has the reputation of being very rich in inland open water capture fisheries than others in Bangladesh. During the study period, only 43 species under 10 Orders and 19 families were found. The highest number of species (17) were found under the family Cyprinidae. Keski (Corica soborna) and chapila (Gudusia chapra) were the most dominant. Among the species 40% and 23% were under the order of Cypriniformes and Siluriformes respectively. Interannual variation in yield per species from Kaptai Lake reservoir in Bangladesh was analysed through using long-term landing data. Each species was categorized according to inter annual yield variation. The characteristics were defined based on size of the inter annual variation in terms of absolute and relative variation around the mean yield and long term trends in catch levels. Annual variation was directly related to the yield and can serve as a good indication of the status of the fishery when catches are low. The target fish, Keski (Corica soborna) and Chapila (Gudusia chapra) showed large variation in annual yield. The production of keski (C. soborna) and chapila (G. chapra) were 30% and 31% respectively of total fish production. 96 pp. Englisch.
