Der Begriff „Seevölkerphänomen“ sollte hierbei als allgemeine Bezeichnung betrachtet werden, die die Auswirkungen dieser turbulenten Periode umschreibt: Diese sind sowohl in den materiellen Hinterlassenschaften fassbar als auch in Textquellen beschrieben, die sich auf kriegerische Konflikte verschiedener ethnischer Gruppen im Ostmittelmeerraum beziehen. Die Folge war das Ende der Spätbronzezeit, der ersten „internationalen“ Periode der Geschichte. Die Beiträge werden in fünf Sektionen präsentiert: „Overviews: From Italy to the Levant“; „Climate and Radiocarbon“; „Theoretical Approaches on Destruction, Migration and Transformation of Cultures“; „Case Studies: Cyprus, Cilicia and the Northern and Southern Levant“; „Material Studies“. Der Leser des Bandes gewinnt Einblicke in die komplexen Veränderungen während dieser Zeit, und es wird anschaulich, dass diese Änderungen eine Vielzahl von Faktoren beinhalten und sich über Jahrzehnte manifestieren.
