Im Mai 2005 machte Michael Maul in Weimar einen sensationellen Fund. In den Beständen der Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek, die er sichtete, befand sich die Handschrift einer geistlichen Arie Johann Sebastian Bachs, von deren Existenz bislang nichts bekannt war. Es war die erste Entdeckung eines bachschen Vokalwerks seit 1935. Die zwölfstrophige Arie entstand 1713 anlässlich des Geburtstags von Herzog Wilhelm Ernst von Sachsen-Weimar, als dessen Hoforganist Bach von 1708 bis 1717 angestellt war. Dieses Vokalwerk ist der einzige Beitrag Bachs zur Gattung der Strophenarie. Dabei ist das Gelegenheitswerk von erlesener Qualität. Nach der praktischen Ausgabe in moderner Notation (BA 5246) ist nun ein wertvolles Faksimile der wiederentdeckten Handschrift erschienen. Die beiliegende CD enthält die Welt-Ersteinspielung mit der Sopranistin Elin Manahan Thomas und dem Ensemble " The English Baroque Soloists " unter der Leitung von Sir John Eliot Gardiner.
