Opened in 2018, Agemar has already come to represent the epitome of maritime architecture. The Angelicoussis Maritime Group had its new headquarters built in Athens near the coast; Agemar's every facet pays clever and playful homage to the sea horizon. Even from afar, curving strips of white marble flow uninterruptedly like waves around the building. They set it in graceful motion, whose meaning is reinforced by the reflections of surrounding water surfaces. In the interior, the theme is transposed into a gripping piece of architecture that plays with light. Visitors are immersed in the atmosphere of an ethereal world shaped by natural light and shadows generated by a generous atrium and the flowing curves of the walls sculpted in white marble. No wonder that the architect Rena Sakellaridou and her building have been nominated for the European Union's renowned Mies van der Rohe Prize. Through essays, sketches, drawings, commentary, and photographs, this monograph provides an intimate view of the creation of this unique building. RENA SAKELLARIDOU (*1955, Samos) studied architecture in Thessaloniki, Vancouver, and London. Sakellaridou is a professor of architectural design at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She cofounded the architectural office SPARCH and later on she founded her own office RS SPARCH, whose exhibitions and publications have drawn international fame and won a number of architecture prizes. ERIETA ATTALI (*1966, Tel Aviv) is a New York & Paris based architecture and landscape photographer. She has a Ph.D. from the School of Architecture & Design, RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. Her architectural work expands from Europe to Americas and from Asia to Australia. Attali is the co-author of the Glass Wood Erieta Attali on Kengo Kuma, author of the Periphery. An Archeology of Light and co-author of Marc Mimram: Structure Light Landscapes of Gravity Through the Lens of Erieta Attali.

Rena Sakellaridou, award-winning architect, presents Agemar, the Athens headquarters of one of the most important maritime groups worldwide, which she designed. Erieta Attali, world-renowned architectural photographer, photographs the building over the course of a year. Agemar breaks new ground for the Athenian typology of large-scale buildings. Opened in 2018, it has already come to represent the epitome of maritime architecture. The long horizontal lines of the "floating in the sea" curved form, in a dialogue with the intense Attic light and the sea horizon, transform the fragmented urban chaos of Athens's cityscape into a strong icon. Curving strips of white marble flow uninterruptedly like waves around the building in graceful motion. The interior is a gripping piece of architecture, an ethereal world shaped by natural light and shadows and the flowing curves of the white marble walls. Through essays, sketches, drawings, commentary, and photography this monograph provides an intimate view of the creation of this unique building. An architectural masterpiece in the Greek sun, photographed by Erieta AttaliGreek architect Rena Sakellaridou has built a monumental headquarters for a Greek shipowner that pays clever and playful homage to the sea horizon. Not far from the mythic seaport of Piraeus, near Athens, Sakellaridou’s building’s stark white marble curves bring to mind a futuristic ocean liner. This oversized book gives space to Israeli architectural photographer Erieta Attali’s photography to explore the natural light and shadows invited into a generous atrium and the flowing lines of the walls also sculpted in white marble. Nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Prize, Sakellaridou’s building turns a page in the architectural history of Athens, a city famous for both its ancient architecture and pioneering contemporary structures. This volume also includes essays, sketches, drawings and commentary following the creation of this unique building. | Rena Sakellaridou: Sea Voyage Hardcover | Indigo Chapters.
