Jianxia Wang recently received her PhD in Animal Nutrition from Humboldt University, Berlin Germany. A native of Wuhan/China, she received her B.S. from the Wuhan Huazhoug Agricultural University and an M.S. from the Chinese Academy of Science in Beijing. During her 12 years at the animal nutrition in Academy of Science, her main research area involved feed additives (vitamins and minerals) and feeding management. Later, she was employed for several years as a technical service executive by the Chinese subsidiary of Continental Grain Company in Beijing and Hong Kong. While in Germany, Ms. Wang engaged for many years in research on poultry nutrition, especially the relationship between poultry nutrition metabolism and the ambient temperature in tropical and subtropical regions. Synopsis: High ambient temperature is one of the most important stresses to which poultry are exposed. It impacts on the profitability of chicken, meat and egg production enterprises in many regions of the world. Large economic losses occur worldwide in poultry farming because of increased mortality and decreased growth production due to high ambient temperatures. The objectives of study were to use the major gene of feather reduction and necked neck and/or frizzle feather structure in broilers, which have a better heat tolerance, for the improvement of zootechnical performance and efficiency of the energy metabolism in broiler under high ambient temperature. This publication will provide information and many suggestions and assist those who practice poultry farming and agricultural advisors, especially in tropical and subtropical regions.
