Johannes Grützke (1937 - 2017) hat sich mit seiner Entscheidung für figurative Malerei selbst eine Außenseiterrolle zugeteilt. Als Hauptvertreter der Berliner Künstlergruppe „Schule der Neuen Prächtigkeit“ (1973 gegründet) verweigerte er sich allen Versuchen, ihm das Etikett des Realismus anzuhängen. Trotz offensichtlicher Anleihen aus der Kunstgeschichte entwickelte sich Grützke in den 1960er-Jahren zu einem feinfühligen Chronisten seiner Zeit. Der Berliner Sammler Georg Böckmann war mit dem Künstler befreundet und besitzt eine beeindruckende Sammlung von Gemälden aus allen Werkphasen Grützkes. Das Neue Museum Nürnberg stellte in seinen sechs Fassadenräumen 2021 eine Auswahl von Werken der 1960er- und 1970er-Jahre aus. Schwerpunkte bildeten die frühen physiognomischen Bilder, die bundesrepublikanische Genremalerei, die Selbstporträts, die Gemälde zu Musik und Oper sowie der weibliche Akt. Dabei stellt sich der Blick aus dem Bild als Leitmotiv von Grützkes Malerei heraus. The Berlin collector Georg Böckmann was a friend of the artist and owns an impressive collection of paintings from all phases of Grützke's paintings. In 2021 the Neues Museum Nürnberg exhibited in its six facade-rooms a selection of works from the 1960s and 1970s. Points of emphasis were the early physiognomic pictures, genre painting in relation to the Federal Republic, self-portraits, paintings devoted to music and opera, and the female nude.
