Святой праведный Алексий Мечев родился в Москве 17 марта 1859 года в благочестивой семье регента кафедрального Чудовского хора Алексея Ивановича Мечева. Алексий рос в семье, где царила живая вера в Бога, любовь, добросердечное отношение к людям. 19 марта 1893 г. был рукоположен епископом Нестором, управляющим Московским Новоспасским монастырем, во священника к одной из самых маленьких церквей в Москве - Св. Николая на Маросейке. Всех приходящих в маросейский храм, искавших помощи, погрязших в грехах, забывших о Боге, о. Алексий встречал с сердечной приветливостью, любовию и состраданием. Проповеди Батюшки были просты, искренни, трогали сердце глубинной веры, правдивостью, пониманием жизни. Скончался о. Алексий 22 июня 1923 года. Причтен к лику святых Архиерейским Собором 2000 г. В 2001 году на праздник Всех святых, в земле Российской просиявших, совершилось обретение мощей святого праведного Алексия Московского. Наследие старца невелико, но замечательно сердечной чистотой и нравственной силой. Особое место занимают Отрывки из общих наставлений , которые относятся к жанру душеполезной литературы.
