An interesting and difficult question has lately been discussed in our Courts as to the amount properly chargeable to particular average in cases where, by reason of certain expenditures, more than one interest has been benefited. For instance, a vessel may be taken into dry dock for one speoific purpose, but this may well afford an opportunity for other work to be done on her, and, by effecting the two operations () Pitman v. Universal Mar. Ins. a case which, however, might per Co. (1882), 9 Q. B. D. 192. Cf. also haps have been decided, as it was, Bristol Steam Navigation Co. , Ltd. in favour of the underwriters, even c. Indemnity Mutual Ins. Co. (1887), apart from the authority of Pitmans 67 L. T. 101; 6 Asp. M. O. 173, case. Incidence of an expenditure by which more than one interest has been benefited, Sect. 1035. at one time, dock dues will be saved.
