ISBN: 9786059194204 CATALOG: Photographs KEYWORDS: photography Painting Erotism Erotica Sexuality Woman Art Collection A black and white journey into photography. Selected works from the collection of Tony Ventura, one of Turkey?s most prominent photography collectors, will be on display at Istanbul?s Ark Kultur Gallery from November 3 to November 26. Co-curated by Károly Aliotti and Nilufer Sasmazer, "La Ventura" features more than 60 black and white works by Turkish and international artists, and offers a glimpse into Tony Ventura?s collection of mostly nude photography. The title of the show emphasizes femininity by the use of article ?la?, and refers to word "l?avventura", meaning adventure in Italian. Exhibited works are grouped in three main lines in the context of form and the feeling they convey. The first group emphasizes beauty, and admiration for the female body and includes works by Willy Ronis, Horst P. Horst, Ralph Gibson and Erol Akyavas among others. The images in this group ranges from works with Hellenistic statue aesthetics to iconic fashion photographs of the 90s. The second group is comprised of darker images, suggesting physical pain and sexuality, and includes works by such names as Nobuyoshi Araki, Cindy Sherman and Robert Mapplethorpe. Volatile and almost abstract nudes created through macro shots or visual distortions make up the third group. "La Ventura" doesn?t approach the female body as a symbol of fertility or adoration; it offers the viewer a wide range of contemporary images. A drawing by Burhan Dogancay and some vintage photographs can also be seen at the exhibition. Photographers: Jean-Philippe Veron, Daniel Grant, Rutger Ten Broeke, Karl Struss, Erol Akyavas, Willy Ronis, Ruslan Lobanov, Jean-Francois Jonvelle, Claude Alexandre, Halil Koyuturk, Sabine Pigalle, Ruth Bernhard, Frantisek Drtikol, Yusuf Sevincli, Michel Comte, Bruno Bisang, Guy Le Baube, Horst P.
