从1986年开始。我就煮字为生了。其间最久的，是做编辑，煮别人的字。后则于编辑之余，间译几行书。嗣后弄学问，搞一些陈芝麻烂谷子。在这"五马换六羊"中，又偶应做报刊编辑的朋友之命，写些七杂八芜的小文，填报纸屁股；亦应书画界友人之请，玷人云烟。今小磊、红科两兄以为覆酱瓮可惜，命裒为一册，以应市需，这便有了底下的小书。在《好书无秘密》一文里，我讲到我少年的理想，是做个韬奋那样的报人。这当然是瞎想，绝无可能。人间的事，我偶有感兴，但胆小，逡巡避席。有时又觉得不可与言而与言，是谓失言。故二十年来，写的全是淡话。其中"报尾"部分，多是朱巍兄命写的，刊于我家乡石家庄的《燕赵晚报》，其中多有乡亲间的体己话，庄外的读者，或不尽有兴趣。"说书"部分，乃多系刘小磊兄命写，登于《南方周末》。"忆往"的两文，是"地下"同仁刊物《手稿》的命稿，今征得两主人公同意，并揭于此。"谈艺"部分，是与书画界朋友的应酬，没什么意思。聊存纪念而已。二十年煮字，仅得这薄薄一册，深觉愧赧。说同名同名不是问题。一在天南，一在海北，都无藉藉名，自然相忘于江湖，不会因此有烦恼。但脚不旋踵，迎面一个同名者；脚一旋踵，背后一个同名者；环顾左右，尽是同名者；自呼自名，却应者云集：那就不是愉快事了。汉字有数万之谱，能作名字的，却百不得一。如纯动词不成，故"王拉李拽孙踢钱踹"，不见于名谱。形容词多寓褒贬，难以尽用。茫茫人海，未见以"汪逆""陈奸"作名的，正是这道理。名词指陈事物，兼及雅俗，牛溲马勃，笼而统之。篆刻家邓散木自署"粪翁""逐臭之夫"，别具一格，但多数人则格于常律，不拿屎尿埋汰孩子。故名词能作名字的，也百？一见。比如"虎"行，"狼"不行，可以名"骏"，但不能叫"马"，能称"寿"，不能叫"龟"。至于语气词与介词。则"哎呀""咳哟"的，没个"名"样，"之乎者也"的，可惜太少。但古人起名，虽有"不以畜牲，不以器币"之说，忌讳依然很少。故"黑臀"之名，可见于《春秋》。现在的人，哪怕屁股再白，也只供情人欣赏，不会以"白臀"为名，把优点挂？名上。故春秋有"伯禽"，"孔鲤"，如今则无"王鸟""张鳖"；战国有"重耳""杵'日"，今天无"豁嘴""面盆"。到了近代，取名的范围，也还是较宽的。郑逸梅《艺林散叶》说："以煤字作名号者殊少，现有陈荒煤，较前有林耕煤。"但郑特加标举，亦见忌讳渐多的趋势。这样三除两去，能作名字的汉字，就"多乎哉？不多也!"了。求人不同名，戛戛乎难哉。建国以来，凡事爱闹一窝蜂。如70年代前，人们争相名"军"，名"东"。70年代后，则男爱名"迪"、名"磊"，女爱名"莎"、名"蕊"、名"璨"，让人听着，俨然入了童话国。这样军来东去，迪来璨往，重名的事，就El见其多。故某些个地区，就有给孩子起三字名的号召。无奈听来不太像中国人，故应者颇寥寥。但也有例外。有回我的女儿回家来，说"田李太郎打我了"。我心想，这都他妈什么年头了，还欺负我们中国人，于是"噌"地站起来说："那个小日本儿在哪儿？"未承想那小子是个中国人。重名无大碍，却以不重为好。开放之前，"天下一统"，同名的事，自难避免。如今"到处闻人说自由"，当各出机杼，以汉字之多，不是非"田李太郎"不足示异于人。自陷囚笼，心存", Broché, Ausgabe: 1, Label: 山西人民出版社，山西出版集团, 山西人民出版社，山西出版集团, Produktgruppe: Book, Publiziert: 2011-02-01, Studio: 山西人民出版社，山西出版集团.
