The question was addressed in this study is whether the shift in spatial policy from bundled deconcentration' towards compact city' was accompanied with a change in location preferences of households (reurbanization). Generally, five explanations are put forward for the occurrence of a reurbanization process. Temporary economic change due to the recession in the early eighties. Demographic change as a result of postponed union formation and family formation and a rise in female labour force participation.
