Beide kenmerken vormen de aanleiding voor dit proefschrift, maar dan toegepast op toerisme en vrije tijd. Zo klinkt die verborgen kennis ook te weinig door in de wetenschappelijke en professionele discussies op het gebied van toerisme en vrije tijd. In dit proefschrift wordt een poging ondernomen die verborgen kennis wel meer door te laten klinken. Daarnaast wordt er een begin gemaakt met het structureren van die officiële debatten waarin contexten dan beter zullen doorklinken. Over de auteur: Vincent Platenkamp (1950 Bergen op Zoom) finished his secondary school (gymnasium B) in Rotterdam. He finished his masters in sociology and philosophy (both Cum Laude) at the University of Amsterdam and recently - in January 2007 - his PhD in Wageningen. The title of his PhD: "Contexts in tourism and leisure studies. A cross-cultural contribution to the production of knowledge." From 1977-1980 he was a student assistant in the Philosophy of Science and in Methodology at the University of Amsterdam. From 1981-1989 he worked as a member of staff in part-time education on Human Resource Management and labour relations in The Hague (Stichting SOSA). Since 1988 he works at NHTV, Breda. He took part in various international projects in the field of HRM, TQM and Cross-cultural studies in the Netherlands, Portugal, Indonesia, Thailand, Hungary, Poland, Cuba, Curacao and Bulgaria. From 1989-1992 he joint the Leisure Management department and from 1992 - now the International Tourism Management and Consultancy. Since January 2007 he became an associate professor in Cross-Cultural Understanding. Apart from two books he published different articles in academic, philosophical and tourism magazines.
