Aldo and Hannie van Eyck, Finn Geipel (Lab F AC), Mario Botta, Alvaro Siza, Coop Himmelb(l)au, Enric Miralles, Rem Koolhaas (OMA), Giancarlo De Carlo: architects from different countries and different generations took up this challenge, and in their diversity they show what can be imagined with this distinctive structure. They designed not only the jetties, but also adjoining facilities such as pavilions, a cinema, places to stroll and sit, a swimming pool, a cafe, etc. This publication provides an overview of all eight projects. The introductory essay outlines the city's urban conditions, the significance of this development for Thessaloniki and the nature of the architectural assignment.
