Jesse Het omvangrijke oeuvre van architect Hendrik Johannes Jesse is een beeldbepalend element geworden in de gemeentes Katwijk, Oegstgeest en Leiden. Hij ontwierp er kerken, raadhuizen, scholen, winkelpanden, interieurs, villa's, herenhuizen, landhuizen en arbeiderswoningen. Vele van deze panden zijn nog in gebruik. Jesse werkte aanvankelijk in de Hollandse-renaissanse-stijl, en ontwikkelde vervolgens via de art nouveau en Jugendstil zijn meest gebruikte stijl, de rationalistische, waaraan hij in de loop van de jaren een eigen, herkenbare invulling gaf. Het bekendste bouwwerk van Jesse is zijn eigen woonhuis de Keet aan de Rijnsburgerweg in Leiden, dat veel typerende architectonische kenmerken toont: grote baksteenvlakken, ronde boogramen en deuren, groen geglazuurde raamdorpelstenen, bovenramen met groen beglaasde roedenverdeling, (trap)torens, stijlvolle interieurs, majolica schoorsteen. In dit pand heeft Jesse een groot deel van zijn leven gewoond en gewerkt. In deze publicatie wordt zijn werk geïllustreerd met collectietekeningen uit het archief Jesse, dat beheerd wordt door het Nederlands Architectuurinstituut, en met oude en recente foto'S. Een begeleidend essay plaatst hem in zijn tijd en volgt de ontwikkeling van zijn loopbaan, waarbij zijn belangrijkste bouwwerken aan bod komen, gecomplementeerd door een werkenlijst.
